OCD: Grocery List edition (free printable)

So this ecard perfectly describes my life. Every single Sunday evening, I plan the meals for the upcoming week. Then, I take an inventory of everything I have and everything I need and smash all the items I need onto one very unorganized grocery list. Theeeeen, on a separate, clean sheet of paper, I write out every needed item based on where it is in the store.

And WHAT a hassle it is. It is quite a process, let me tell ya. I swear, I waste precious moments of all my Sunday nights going through this same routine. Each and every week. Then not so long ago, Tracey and I were chatting, and I hesitantly told her about my OCD tendencies. Mostly I was hesitant because I knew she’d judge my weirdness and call me a freak. But then, oh gracious gods of grocery shopping, she said she does the same thing! As long as I’m not alone in my OCD, then it’s alll gravy, baby.

But still, what a hassle! So we decided we needed a list to make things easier for us. A ready-made grocery list, with the categories already separated out into line-items based on where things are located in the store. And because we are in the business of giving our opinions freely and putting them where they don’t belong, we are giving you our grocery list. And 2 different versions of it. We know.

And, here’s a fun disclaimer: I do my grocery shopping at Walmart. Now, I know there are lots of people who are mortally and morally and whatever else against Walmart. If you are that people, just hear me out before you go and get your panties in a bunch. I am a poor newlywed and Walmart has the cheapest groceries I’ve found anywhere, by a long shot. I personally can’t afford to buy all my groceries from Whole Foods (or as my husband calls it, Whole Paycheck. Am I right? Seriously, break my bank, why don’t ya!). Walmart is very practical for my budget. Therefore, that’s where I buy my groceries. However, I will say that produce and deli at Walmart, almost always generally sucks. So. I go elsewhere for those items, unless I’m in a colossal rush. So anyway, what I was going to say is these particular grocery lists are in an order by which most Super Walmarts abide. If you would like a customized grocery list, in the order of whichever grocery store you shop at, leave a comment with the order you’d like, and we’ll try to get it over to you just as soon as we can 🙂

Fall Favorites Giveaway (CLOSED)

I think it’s pretty obvious from our October posts thus far that we love fall round these parts. And so to share that love with all of you, we are offering — drumroll, please — our third giveaway on Our Unqualified Opinion. A collection of some of our most favorite fall-ish things: The Fall Favorites Giveaway.

Hopefully the prospect of a giveaway brightened your Monday just a little bit? ; )

For our first fall favorite, we have a black, embellished infinity scarf. It’s the perfect lightweight-ness for the slight chill of an autumn day — not too hot. It’s neutral so it’ll go with just about any outfit. And the embellishments are just way too cute. It took everything in my soul to actually include this in the giveaway — I really wanted it for myself. Mr. Dannelly said, You have scarves already. Just give it away. Whoever this ends up going to is going to look spicy hot! And her neck will be warm.

Next, the Starbucks gift card. Now I know some of you don’t drink coffee, but fear not! Remember this post? And have you tried the pumpkin flavored drinks yet? I, myself, don’t drink coffee so I can’t vouch specifically for the Pumpkin Spice Latte, but the creme-based version (Pumpkin Spice Steamer)… well, it’s just YES! Definitely a fall favorite of mine, when the Pumpkin Spice at Starbucks comes back into my life. So, winner, take this gift card and try yourself our fall favorite!

Third, candy corn. I know some people just can’t stand the stuff. But it (along with the candy corn pumpkins) is for sure in my top 3 of fall favorite things, so I just had to add a bag to this giveaway. And if you, winner, don’t like candy corn? Well, who cares! Look at all the other cool stuff you’re getting anyway….

Fourth, just the cutest red mugs (because when I asked Mr. Dannelly Red or white? He said, Red, it seems for fall-ish). So, red mugs.

Fifth, to go with the red mugs… my absolute favorite hot chocolate I have ever, ever, ever had. Oh, it’s such a good fall favorite, this Land O’ Lakes hot chocolate. If you’ve never had it, you should. And if you win, you’re welcome. Because it is that good.

To top off the wonderful hot chocolate (because what else says fall better than a hot beverage?), in the wonderfully cute red mugs, are the darn cutest and tastiest little marshmallows you ever did see. Or taste. Not sure why these weren’t available to the public earlier (7-11 has had them for a while), but kudos to Kraft and Jet-Puffed for finally offering the finishing touch to all my hot beverage needs. Truly, the perfect way to end my fall favorite list!

And finally, (not pictured) is a pumpkin spice candle. I mean, honestly, the only thing better than all the fall favorite stuff I already mentioned above is to enjoy it all while sitting in your home that smells of freshly baked pumpkin pie (without the effort of actually having to make said pumpkin pie). Yes, please.

This giveaway starts today (Monday) and will run through 11:59 pm on Friday. Enter using the Rafflecopter widget below. We will announce the winner on Saturday so stay tuned. And GOOD LUCK!

*And for the sake of clarification, this is not a sponsored post. Starbucks or Land O’ Lakes or Kraft did not endorse us in any way. These are truly our unqualified fall favorites — we purchased these items for you guys, because we love and appreciate you. And we love and appreciate fall and just wanted to do something fun to show that. Although, how cool would it be to have any one of those guys as a sponsor?

**At this time, this giveaway is only available to those in the United States and Canada.

Winner Winner Bento Dinner! Or Lunch.

Back To School BentoWe have winner!!!  Congratulations to Amy H!

Amy is actually one of our original readers! She has been telling me (Tracey) that I should have a food blog for years. This is quite the compliment coming from someone who actually HAS a food blog.

Amy

As the mother of four boys, (yes, FOUR BOYS) Amy knows a lot about feeding families.  Go check her out. Maybe we can convince her to do a post on kid’s lunches.

I just want to know who is going to luck out and get the Bento Box.  My money is on her husband.

Congratulations Amy!

Disclaimer: This is a non-sponsored post. We bought our own stuff and Amy was chosen by Rafflecopter. We just happen to love her and her blog so we thought we’d share. Now, go try her salsa.

Back to School Giveaway! {CLOSED}

Bento-Blog

That’s right! School is starting up once again and we here at OUO wanted to ease the bad news (or augment the good?) with a chance to win a handy little prize package. While getting it ready for photographs, I told Tracey that I kind of wanted to keep everything, and she told me that she had felt the same about our last giveaway. Point? We like you guys, and we’re very grateful to you for reading! And we back up that gratitude with some sweet loot. Observe:

One bento lunchbox from Bentgo in blue

This bento has two layers that can nest for storage. It’s big enough for grown-ups, but a perfect size for little lunches, too! Reusable silverware and an elastic strap are included. Learn more about the Bentgo here.

Fred and Friends Crustache sandwich cutter

Yes, yes, I know mustaches are everywhere, but it’s a mustache sandwich cutter. You can simultaneously cut the crusts off of a sandwich and make that sandwich into a disguise. I know. Check it out here.

Good Food to Go by Brenda Bradshaw and Cheryl Mutch, M.D.

A lunchbox is only as good as the food that’s in it, and this book keeps the good recipes coming, including Roasted Red Pepper Hummus and Cucumber Pinwheels and Spanakopita. Plus it has nutrition guides, tips on organizing your kitchen for easier lunch prep, and clever ideas like using straws instead of skewers to make school-friendly fruit kabobs. We liked that idea so much, in fact, that we included a package of Bentgo-sized cakepop sticks that you can use instead. See? Thoughtful.

Eager to win this? Because we are! Like, maybe I might have considered entering under a false name…perhaps…just saying. Are there penalties for blog fraud? Anyway, entering is easy! Comment below on what your favorite school lunch was growing up (from home or school), and fill out the Rafflecopter form. The giveaway will run until next Monday, August 19, at 9:00 pm Central Time.  Good luck!

Full disclosure: Ain’t none of these prizes provided by a sponsor. These are things we like and picked out on our own, and chose to share them with you!

UPDATE (8/21/13): Thanks to all for participating. You can find the winner here.

Summer Sippers – Frozen Apple Juice AND A Giveaway!

We have two orders of business today. First up, the “Summer Sipper” of the week based on a refreshing Disneyland treat. Second, our very first giveaway. If you want to know more about it, you are either going to have to read my rambling or just scroll down to the giveaway part.

Cool? Cool.

Last fall, our family took a trip with some friends to Disneyland. We have found that our 4.5 yr old is really hard to feed on vacation. He eats a limited menu and is about the pickiest child you have ever met. However, he loooooooooves apple juice. He’d drink the stuff by the gallon. So imagine my excitement when near the backdoor that leads (Sam Earl, you know the one.) from Fantasyland to Adventureland we found a stand that sells “100% Frozen Apple” Juice. I thought that I had just scored mommy gold and my little guy was going to be THRILLED by this amazing treat I found him. I proudly purchased one and marched up to my son just waiting to be the most beloved mother in Disneyland, if not the world.

Yeah, he wouldn’t drink it.

So what does a mother do who just spent $4.19 (I looked up the price) on a beverage that her child doesn’t want? Why, she drinks it herself. And loves every sip of it. And attempts to recreate it at home.

At least that’s what this mom does.

Frozen-Apple-juice

Frozen Apple Juice

Here’s what you are going to need.

  • An ice cream maker. The type with the frozen bowl/canister/thingy. Mine is a Cuisinart and one of the best wedding gifts Ben and I received.
  • A can of frozen apple juice concentrate.
  • A bottle of club soda. A bottle of lemon lime soda will also work. As will water. I just like the little kick carbonation adds.

Are you ready for this? It’s super hard. And by hard, I mean ridiculously easy. My 4.5 yr old could make this drink. Not that he would drink it . . .

  1. Freeze your ice cream canister according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Mine needs at least 24 hours. Otherwise you are just going to get apple juice.
  2. Pour one can of concentrate into the bowl. My juice called for 3 cans of liquid so that is what I added. In the form of club soda. Stir is up a little.
  3. Turn on you machine and let it go until you achieve the desired slushiness. This will depend on your personal taste and how cold your canister is. Mine takes about 25 minutes. Just watch it.
  4. Enjoy!
  5. Oh, and add a splash of Torani Vanilla. You thought I forgot didn’t you.

Now onto the part you’ve all been waiting for . . .

The Giveaway

Giveaway

We are just so excited for this, you guys! An epic moment in blogging history for Our Unqualified Opinion. Our very first giveaway. Theme: Summer Sippers. How appropriate, right? We think so! This giveaway will help you kickstart any summer gathering you may be having. Or, if you’re not having a gathering, just enjoy all the wonderfully cute, summery items yourself! No one’s going to blame you or call you selfish… we think.

Should you win this giveaway, you will receive two tiki tumblers (alliteration was on purpose) in which to put your summer sipper beverage—because just look at them! You will also receive an ice tray which will produce star-shaped ice to keep your summer sipper cool. Finish off your summer sipper with one of three flavors of Torani syrup (with or without sugar), because, well, why not? Sip your beverage through an adorable straw with attached umbrella. Yeah, you read that right. Just, yes. And as a bonus, enjoy some popcorn in the super bright, super cute popcorn containers. And finally, totally adorable napkins to clean it all up.

Unfortunately, the basket from the picture is not included.

To enter the giveaway, you just need to be following our blog via email or bloglovin’. Our bloglovin’ button is in the contact info to the right, as is the place to input your email address. To verify you’ve done that, you will need to enter your email address or bloglovin’ name into Rafflecopter below. Once you do that step, you will have the opportunity to receive 7 more entries, for a total of 10 entries. The giveaway will run for one week. We will announce the winner next Wednesday, July 3.
